Artist of the week on KINK - (commercial radio) Portland
"A definite add"
"Art of Dichotomies"
"Strong lyricism, flowing melodies, and unfeigned vocals"
TENTS is a Portland based comfort-pop quartet currently touring in support of their forthcoming full-length Deer Keeps Pace (Badman Recording Co.)
TENTS is active in Portland, having played the Doug Fir/Mississippi Studios/Rontoms circuit with the likes of The Parson Redheads, Måscaras, The Builders and the Butchers, and Frankie Simone.
The name "TENTS" provides a surprisingly clear picture of what this band is thinking about: family and the joy of the commonplace as a counterpoint to flashing lights and hype of wild world beyond.
TENTS is in fact, a family band. Vocalists Amy and Brian are partners, and parents. In spite of the band's domestic infatuation, this music does not hide at home. it teems with optimism and newness beneath a shimmering, contemplative shell.
The title track from their debut LP Deer Keeps Pace depicts a wild animal playfully running in stride with an old station wagon. The deer is a commentary on the constant threads in life. The ideas, feelings, and moments in life that stick with us and carry us through.
TENTS built this record piece by piece as a crew in their Back Yard studio. More often than not, their songs are written live during stretches of deep studio time, improvising and responding intuitively to one another.
Magic spouts effortlessly through this music. It feels like a bunch of kids laughing and shouting from the recesses of a playground, inviting the cynics and the skeptics and the wallflowers to join the fun.
